Materials
Our considerations in choosing materials are simple. We use local, home-grown timber's from sustainable sources, working closely with the timber producers themselves. We can generally tell exactly where the tree was grown, by whom and for how long. We treat each piece of timber separately, determining how best to use it. We allow the wood to 'speak', to dictate how it should be used, rather than forcing a design onto it. This gives our furniture a truly organic, flowing elegance, rather than a contrived manufactured feel.
We love character in our materials. Awkward grains, knots, splits and cracks are a beautiful distraction from the homogeny of mass production, a stamp of natural authenticity. We celebrate these 'defects' in our work, allowing our designs to make a feature of these characterful inclusions. They give us a direct link back to the timbers heritage.
Those materials that are not directly from local sources tend to be reclaimed from various locations. Many of the timber's from our beds are rejected from the traditional timber framing industry, timbers unable to take the stresses found in construction are re-used in smaller projects.
